About the School
Out of Programme Training (OOPT)
Out of Programme Training or Research (OOPT/R) is supported, enabling a trainee to gain specialist experience not available within the School. Off rotation attachments are discretionary and will depend on satisfactory progress within the training programme.
They are arranged with the programme director. A minimum of 6 months notice, and generally a year, is required to organise time out of programme. The school has good links with centres in Australia and the USA that provide training in general anaesthesia, ICM, pain, cardiac and vascular anaesthesia. OOPE is limited to 1 year and training recognition must be arranged prospectively with the Deanery, Royal College of Anaesthetists and Post Graduate Medical Training and Education Board (PMETB).
There is a bursary for trainees going abroad with OOPE, or a conference, who incorporates something adventurous and fun in the trip. It is in memory of Ross Davis, an anaesthetic SpR at Plymouth. Please see the link - http://www.rosswindsurf.co.uk/id16.html
