BRISTOL SCHOOL OF ANAESTHESIA

About the School Subspecialty Training Paediatrics

The advanced paediatric training consists of six month slots comprising

  • two months general paediatric anaesthesia; and,
  • two months paediatric cardiac with PICU on call and two months PICU.

You must be in year StR5 (SpR3) or more at the start of the module.

Please note that PMETB is stricter on training requirements than the old STA, so you really cannot do more than one year in a specialist area. Therefore, if you plan to do a paediatric year abroad these local slots may not be for you, but please discuss with Su Underwood the Programme Director.

The one year training at Great Ormond Street is also good and appears as an advert in the BMJ from time-to-time.  That covers all areas of paediatric anaesthesia and is treated as a period of out of programme experience from the paperwork point of view.
