BRISTOL SCHOOL OF ANAESTHESIA

About the School Hospitals Weston General Hospital - Specialties

The department of anaesthesia consists of: 10 consultants, 1 associate specialist anaesthetist and 8 trainee anaesthetists.

Trainees may spend up to 15 months in Weston in years ST1-2. There is a 1:8 partial shift rota (no middle grade cover), and night duties are mainly ICU and occasional theatre work, with little service commitment otherwise. The hospital provides excellent training conditions for novice anaesthetists in their first two or three years.

Orthopaedics is a major speciality. The midwife-led maternity unit does not have routine anaesthetic involvement, but anaesthetists may be called to help with neonatal emergencies.
